About Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers is a partnership of the public, law enforcement and the media working to bring to justice those who perpetrate crimes and to prevent crime. Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers (MRCS) was formed in 1984 by a group of concerned retailers and regional Law enforcement Officials with the support of the Retail Merchants Association. This makes MRCS one of the oldest Crime Stoppers organizations in the USA. There are well over 2,000 nationwide. The concerned citizens of the Greater Richmond area felt then, as they do today, that an organized citizenry offering rewards leading to the apprehension of criminals could make a significant contribution toward Law Enforcement's capability to arrest criminals. Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers is administered by a Board of Directors. The Board is made up of 30 volunteer Directors and representatives of the area Law Enforcement.
