WELCOME TO OUR VERY LAST ART GUILD MEETING OF THE YEAR!!

​ALL NAHS hours must be completed by the end of this meeting.  Check that your meeting hours are logged in correctly and signed off in the NAHS binder.  You should also clip in your service hour forms with signatures behind your name.  The completed application is due to your art teacher no later than 5pm.

WHES Earth Day Festival SUNDAY April 23rd - SIGN UP IS FULL. Please take your name OFF this list if you cannot commit or plan to do something else.  You must turn in your signed service hours by MONDAY April 24th to be considered to induction.  Until then, your application will be pending.

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS:  NAHS and Art Guild members must vote today on the design for your senior flag, which will be displayed on graduation day at the Siegel Center and then permanently on display in the Atlee Commons.  The designers will remain anonymous at this time.  Please place your name in the blank beneath your selected design to submit your vote.  The winner will be announced at the end of the meeting.

Senior Flag 
This design competition is open to any senior in Art Guild/NAHS. Voting will take place during our last meeting on March 16th.  All designs should be submitted to your art teacher no later than March 15th.  The artist who wins the design competition will begin painting the Senior Flag immediately and it will need to be completed no later than May 1st.

    • THERE IS ONE SPOT REMAINING ON THE TRIP - ANYONE INTERESTED MUST TURN IN PERMISSION FORM TOMORROW!!
    • Anyone attending this trip must return their Junior Tours registration form with a parent signature by tomorrow!!!
    • ALL PARTICIPANTS must place their name on the room list today to sort out who will share a hotel room with you - anyone that does not do so by the end of the meeting will be assigned a room.
  • Lantern Workshop:  Those of you who signed up to participate in the Lantern Making Workshop, please be seated in Art Room 1 immediately following announcements to begin - if you did not sign up and would like to particpate, please see Mrs. Fisher to determine if there are any available spots.

  • ​Review NAHS By-Laws
    • Section 5. All members must participate in at least 10 hours of our Art Guild's meetings, activities, and fund raisers.  Attendance is required for at least half of the all-member meetings held at Atlee High School (6 or more hours).
    • Section 5. All members must participate in at least 2 hours of an Art Guild sanctioned community service project.  Additional service hours may be completed as individual hours outside of the society activities, which can replace up to 4 meeting hours.  These requests must be submitted in writing at least two weeks prior to the service date.  The service must be art-related and serve the Atlee and surrounding community.  A signature of at least two sponsors is required for final approval.
    • MEMBERSHIP SELECTION: 
      The selection process occurs every March and all candidates must submit a completed application by the designated deadline, which is March 16, 2017.  Supervisors and school administration will be involved in the selection process based on a review of application, grades and discipline reports.  Selected students will be notified and letters of selection will be sent to parents and guardians in April.  Students are inducted into the National Art Honor Society at an informal ceremony held in May at Atlee High School. Parents and students must understand that no student has a right to be selected for membership in a chapter of the National Art Honor Society, it is a privilege. 
    • MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES: 
      o   To attend at least half of the scheduled all-member Art Guild meetings and accumulate the total # of hours outlined above.
      o   To keep track of meeting and service hours by entering accurate information & proper documentation into NAHS log book. (get a copy of your service hour log TODAY!)
      o   To keep informed of service opportunities through meetings and the website.
      o   To regularly check email and the website to stay informed of any changes.

  • Field Trip Information We will soon be allowing students to register for the NYC Art Appreciation Tour: 12/2-12/4, 2016
    • The first morning to turn in signed permission forms will be reserved for NAHS members between 8:00-8:20 in 911
    • The second morning to turn in signed permission forms will be reserved for Art Guild members from 8:00-8:20 in 911
    • There are 50 spots available, which will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  
    • Students will immediately be given instructions for registering online and for making the initial deposit of $200, so come prepared with a credit card.  The remaining balance of $429 will be due no later than November 1st, which makes the total cost of the trip $629.
  • Our Next Meeting: On October 20th, we will be holding a Lantern Making Workshop for all students interested in attending  Inlight Richmond Festival in Scott's Addition on Friday November 11th from 7pm-11pm - You can earn two Art Guild Meeting hours by turning in documentation of your attendance including pictures or flyers obtained at the festival.  Please sign-up today to reserve your spot in the workshop during our next meeting

The Croy West Scholarship Award is an annual financial need scholarship created to support student participation in the NAHS Creative Industries Studio (CIS). The award will provide financial assistance for one student to participate in the 2.5-day hands-on learning experience taking place in Washington, DC, November 17-19, 2016.

    • The artists with the most creative and well executed designs will be pulled together to form the Atlee Vans Custom Culture Contest Team.  You will be involved in either the planning process and/or application of the designs on each shoe, but you will not be required to do both.​  Questions?   • Washington Henry Elementary School's Earth Day Festival: Volunteer Request
    • Date: Sunday, April 24th and runs from 1:00-5:00pm.
    • ​Contact: Jennifer Bateman - WHESEarthDayFestival@comcast.net
    • Volunteer Role: Staff of the "Pop Top Band" Activity Station
    • Details: All materials are provided. We would just need volunteers to help the children make and finish off the bands as getting the cording through the button, knotting, and then gluing it can be a bit difficult for the elementary age crowd. It was by far one of our most popular activities.  
    • Time Slots: The volunteers can divide the day up into two shifts, 12:30-3:00 and 2:45-5:15. They can work one or both of the shifts. We need to have at least two people per shift, but more are welcome. We provide documentation of community service hours.

  • Heads Up - VMFA Teen Stylin' 2016 is accepting applications now! Deadline is Jan 26th **Please let a teacher now if you want to be apart of this!** ONLY 2 STUDENTS CAN PARTICIPATE.This year's theme is "Engineered" and Stylin’ instructors along with Hack.RVA members will support students in constructing garments that support movement, mechanisms, electrical lighting, and more.

    • NEW OPPORTUNITIY: Outside Service Project - CARITAS @ Shady Grove United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 16th from 7-8pm.  CARITAS helps to break the cycles of homelessness and addiction in the Metro Richmond area so that people can lead stable lives. Shady Grove is housing the homeless from December 12th-December 19th.  We will participate on the 16th by producing life drawings for these individuals.  Learn more about CARITAS.  Sign up by Dec 3rd!
